Or so it would appear. British Airways and whichever one of their U.K. unions were having a salary dispute have settled all that bother, so no strike looms for this Friday. So K's flight should go off as well as flights go. All we've got to do is get her to the airport three or more hours ahead of time, and then leave her there, since once she goes through security, we can't see her anymore anyway.

Now that sucks. Sitting there in the airport all that time by herself. At least when we went to the U.K. in March, we had each other. I was saying to her before, if only she could have her cell phone, and call (and let me know how she's doing, waiting, of course, and if the flight's delayed because I need to know!) but of course, she can't use the same cell phone over there, so there's no point in taking it, and it's getting passed over to R when she comes home and until she gets her own. And then the stroke of genius! R is going to visit her there in Berlin in mid-September, before she herself comes home. Excellent! So K can take her phone with her (so she can call Mommy a million times while she's waiting in Newark Airport) and then remember to give it to her sister in September, and then -- how much better could it get? -- when R lands on October 2, and is waiting forever in customs, she can call Mommy and let her know that she's arrived safely, is on the ground, etc. It's getting better and better, folks. I've actually found a way for both of my children to feed my need for total security and knowledge of their safety at every conceivable moment. It's a new high for me.
