So here's the plan 242

About two hours before R left for Wales, I decided to go visit her in November, when schools are closed in New Jersey for a long weekend. (It's for the Teachers' Convention. No kidding. Don't get me started.) My sister said she would go with me, too.

So now it's morphed into a whole other thing, which is okay. No trip in November. A longer trip in February, during Washington's Birthday President's Day week, when Sibs and I turn out to have the same winter break this year. A few days in London, a few days in Wales. Turns out the kid has no classes that week either, and may join us in London for those days.

And even better, all the airlines to Britain are having all kinds of sales, so it's even cheaper to fly there than it would be to fly to California, or maybe even Florida, then.

When we went to the county court-house yesterday to apply for Sibs' passport, there was a question on the form about if she ever was known by another name, but there was only room for one. The clerk had to give her extra sheets of paper to list the info and names of both ex-husbands. It was an amusing moment for all concerned.

And R did call today; finally got her phone over there, and after several tries I figured out how to call her back. (Numbers, too many numbers ...) She sounds okay. And a weird coincidence, tied up in another coincidence: one of the girls in her program over there is also from New Jersey, and in fact went to high school with one of R's best friends from college. Who, she found out after they had already been rooming together for a few months in their junior year, turned out to be the daughter of another teacher in my town, who, it turned out, had been K's second grade teacher.

And in a marvelous twist of unrelated-to-anything-fate, one of my own high school colleagues today told me that on a trip to California this summer, he knew someone who knew Betty White and he met her and had dinner with her. WHICH MEANS I AM ONE DEGREE SEPARATED FROM ... drumroll ... THE GOLDEN GIRLS! Can you believe it?

and one degree from The Odd Couple guys! The best ever! Oh, it's all too much for me, too much ...
