Now Where Was I? 544

In a world where random thoughts rule:

I messed up with the VCR last night and didn't get this week's episode of Joey, and as a result, the Sibs is beside herself with glee. I am the family techie, therefore -- since we were raised in the Black OR White family -- she is the Luddite who can't program a VCR and thinks she's dumb. So she's all clam-like in her happiness. Glad I could help.

I made real dinner again, which R seems to more or less expect. I guess she made real dinner every night over there, and has blocked the memory of never having real homemade food here for most of her life. Curious.

I haven't told an SCM story yet this school year, so here's one. One of our colleagues, who is a pretty good friend of his, they see each socially and such, was out since school began as he had been suddenly diagnosed with a systemic blood infection, was hospitalized, sent home with IV antibiotics, and so forth. His first day back was Tuesday, when the SCM was himself out ill. On Tuesday, I made a point of visiting this guy in his classroom, since I knew he was back but still weak. Only today did the SCM even realize that he was back, and when someone else mentioned it, the SCM said, "Well, tell him to drop by the library and say hello." Duh. Upstairs and on the other side of the building from his classroom, a guy who's lost a lot of weight and is just glad to be back and working. So we -- Colleague and I -- asked him what was wrong with him and why he didn't just go see the guy and welcome him back. As we say in this house, what a maroon. A Self Centered Maroon. Ahem.

The ILs have just commandeered our entire Sunday. :-( I know they want to see the grandkid, but the grandkid offered to drive down on her own to see them, have lunch, etc. They opted to drive up here instead and spend the whole day with us. Nice. The Hubs actually had plans to go watch the football game with a friend, which is something he never ever ever does and I think would have been nice for him, but no. Really, I think the ILs have issues. The FIL is The Boss, always and wherever he is, but is limited by his weight (about 350 maybe?) and his multiply-replaced hip and heavy limp, along with back pain, and as a result, the MIL lives to look after him, and will totally ignore her own health to do so. She hates to drive and always has, but now that he can't anymore but they still live an hour and a half away from all of us, it's up to her. I do feel bad for her, but it's really a bed that she's been continuously making for over 50 years, and she doesn't know how to do anything else but lie in it. So he wants to come up here on Sunday and she has to drive, instead of letting a perfectly healthy and willing adult grandchild do the work. Arrgh.

Thanks for all the nice responses to yesterday's rant. I've been observing the whole teacher thing from the inside for so long, and formulating all sorts of reactions, that it was like somebody pressed a button on a VCR and I just played that one right back.

Okay, this week's Degrassi is over. Gotta copy it to send to the current kid overseas.

Good weekend, all.
