Who Loves Ya, Baby? 1045

It's been nothing more than a decorative item for years, but I never wanted to part with it. But now -- or in a few weeks, to be more precise -- the time has come.

So R is now out on her own, so to speak; at least she's living someplace else. The move went very well this morning, and now she's over there settling in. My work here is about to begin. I haven't had the courage yet to investigate upstairs, although I'll have to tomorrow, since K is coming home for spring break and will need someplace to be. And one of my library's books is up there, and I've got to bring it in on Monday. So tomorrow's the day. I did some work in the basement this morning, so I've got that to continue with, too.

I never did make it to the supermarket today, so that's on the list for tomorrow, too. Looks like a busy day. I hope it doesn't snow.

I turned on the TV when I came in, and landed on TV Land, which is showing a weekend long tribute to Don Knotts. I expect there will be some Three's Company later, but for now, it's all Andy Griffith. You always hear critics and whatnot saying that this is one of the best TV shows of all time, if not the best, and you know, I watched it all the time when I was a kid, but I just don't see that. Maybe I will if I watch it for a few hours. They're always saying how this was a heartwarming show about a small-town single father and his son. Well, yes, some of it was that. What I remember about it, though, was that my mother and I watched it together every week and we laughed. We like it because it was funny. I think we were always waiting for when Barney would shoot himself in the foot with his one bullet, which only happened, I believe, three times over the years the series was on. But it could have happened any time. I think we watched it for Barney and Gomer, although we liked Andy and certainly little Opie. (Whom I persist to this day in calling "Ronny Howard", which drives my kids crazy. As in, "Oh, Cinderella Man; wasn't that directed by Ronny Howard?")

So R had said last night that once the movers came and she left with them, it wouldn't be necessary for me to go with her. As it turned out, her car was also full and overflowed into mine, so I ended up going along. And what did I do there, other than carrying in a few bags? I did "the mommy thing" as she called it when she asked if I would: I made her bed. For some reason, my mother would always make my bed when I moved into a dorm room, and I did it for my girls, too. Somehow, your bed needs to be originally made up by mommy when you move into a new place. Aww. So I did that, and then we went out for a genuine New Jersey diner breakfast around 11:00. Hmmmm, haven't done that in a looong time. We were seated right away even though there was a crowd at the door, because they asked "Smoking or non-smoking?" and I said what I always say: "Doesn't matter." So we got seats right away in the smoking section. This is only good for another month or so, since in mid-April, New Jersey is being a copycat and banning all smoking indoors in restaurants, diners, and bars. K cannot believe that New Jersey is not making an exception for diners! The only exception is that people can still smoke in the casinos in Atlantic City. Gee. Either gamblers deserve to get lung cancer, or ... wait ... could it be ... money? No doubt casino owners have a better lobby in Trenton than diner owners do, eh? If they lost the income from all those smokers sitting there, they'd go out of business. So much for legislating morality.

Oh, I have so much to do. It must be nap time.
