So we spent some time last week and over the weekend watching that VH1 series about the 200 "Greatest" Pop Idols. The people who came up with these either:
a) don't know what pop means
b) don't know what an idol is
c) don't understand the whole concept
The answer is D, all of the above. It was entertaining, and did lead to endless discussions here in the family room, since their choice of icons, as well as their rankings, from 200 (The Rock) down to 1 (Oprah Winfrey) seemed pretty random.
-- JFK Jr. had a better ranking than his father.
-- James Stewart, among others, wasn't there.
I could go on and on and on. I could lament that the younger generation has no regard for true icons, although this would not be true in the case of my own daughters.
Since in this family we are, down to the last one of us, the black humor people, I close with K's comment after seeing the news today:
Bob Hope finally decided it was time to go when he saw the list, and that he was #152 out of 200: between Bon Jovi and Spider-Man. Gwen Stefani was #142.
