St. Isadore's Shit List 296

We're on it again. Today, K's one-and-a-half year old Dell laptop bit the dust bigtime. As in hard drive failure. As in she's got three weeks left in the semester, and never backs up -- c'mon, who does, really -- but had the good sense to print out all the research for her 15 page paper due in ten days. They're sending us a new hard drive -- isn't that special? -- and all I have to do is reformat it, load the operating sytem and drivers, and restore every other program she has. Thank god for the warranty, anyway. But what a pain in the ass. The support guy said, "Oh, this happens." Total hard drive failure? I don't really think it should. The good news is that we were able to get it to boot up in the Hubs' similar machine and back everything up, and he's letting her take his back to school for the rest of the semester. By which time I should be suitably fried from all the reloading and such.

Bitch, bitch, bitch. But on the other hand ...

So the kid and I took a respite from the computer woes (as well as a break from the amazing Odd Couple marathon, more on that tomorrow) and went to see Love, Actually. Which was also just seen by LA, whose take on it was the same as mine, except I wanted to cry through the whole thing, but didn't. This was such a satisfying movie to watch. I did cry through the whole end segment, and so did K. It was funny, and touching, and everything I want to go to see a movie for. Not that it's going to win any awards, although it probably should for writing, at least. If you haven't seen it, go. (This from a woman who sees two movies a year, when her grown children ask her along.) But go.

BTW, since I can't so much put a link the title of entry, it's here.

I'm watching The Odd Couple! Yay!
