Forget the entry I was going to post today -- I'll post it tomorrow. There's bigger news afoot.

Our governor just resigned, effective November 15. It seems that he is gay.

Gay! Or as he said, he is "a gay American." I mean, wow. K and I just watched his announcement, and let me tell you, you don't hear politicians speaking this way every day. He spoke from the heart, pretty clearly, and about his lifelong struggle with his own identity, his regret in breaking his marriage vows -- he appears in commercials for the state with his wife and baby -- and that he takes full responsibility for everything he's done. It was the most straightforward thing I've ever heard a politican say. I wish I could vote for him all over again.

He did not resign because he's gay. He resigned because the individual with whom he had what he calls a "consensual sexual relationship" is maybe about to sue him for harassment and/or threaten him with public exposure, and so the gov decided that the best approach is to come clean now, eliminating any public-exposure threat. Whether or not there's a harassment lawsuit will remain to be seen.

Right now on TV, they're interviewing the common folk at a small shopping mall in the next town over, and they're all saying that his personal life doesn't matter to them, they like him as governor, and wish he hadn't resigned, although they understand his choice. The main reaction seems to be surprise.

Pretty weird, man.
