Gloomy Weather ... Yay! 1135

06.04.2006

8:21 pm

It was gray and cloudy all day until about 5:00, which meant there was no shore traffic on the way down, and that the North Jersey people who have weekend houses there must have stayed to enjoy the bit of sunshine until after dinner, because we had no traffic either way. So, good.

All in all, a pleasant day at the ILs, a lot of laughing here and there. Some excellent stories were swapped. My favorite was this one, told by my 100% Italian FIL:

It seems that he was running for a position in some governing board of their senior citizens community, and someone else there said that all the candidates running were yentas. He took some amused offense at this -- yenta is Yiddish for busybody -- and asked this person what basis she had for calling him a yenta. She said to him "Do you even know what yenta means?" And he answered, "Oy, if my mispocheh (family) heard you ask me that!" Heh heh heh. He probably does know more Yiddish than I do -- he was raised in a very blended neighborhood -- but of course, my brother-in-law and I are both Jewish, which makes all of the FIL's grandchildren some part of Jewish, so he's entirely justified in claiming mispocheh. All the Hubs' family are generally very clever and quick-witted, a gift I'm happy to say my children have inherited, so a good time was had by all today.
